Short Answer
The popular image of a "Grey alien" — large head, large black eyes, small body — is actually a composite of at least four completely different types of being that have almost nothing in common beyond a superficial visual resemblance. According to the Taygetan material, the term "Grey" is as meaningless as calling every four-legged mammal a "dog." The beings grouped under this label range from some of the most benevolent species involved with Earth to some of the most dangerous, from biological organisms to fully robotic constructs, from positive Federation members to Reptilian-created slave soldiers.
At least 165 different species of Grays have been registered, with innumerable sub-species among them. The four main categories described in the material are: Gardener Grays (positive, biological, plant-based, from Zeta Reticuli), Maitré or Tall Greys (negative, Reptilian-created, predatory), robotic or programmable Grays (artificial constructs, operated by various factions), and Etorthans (Federation administrative species, cold and logical, highly advanced). Each operates under completely different motivations, biology, and allegiances.
1. Gardener Grays (Zeta Reticuli)
The Gardener Grays are the positive faction among the Grey species. They originate primarily from the Zeta Reticuli system and are among the most commonly encountered Grey types on Earth. Their biology is plant-based rather than animal-based, which is a crucial distinction: they are not modified versions of human or reptilian biology but an entirely different branch of biological development. Most of the 165+ registered Grey species have plant-based biology, though others are silicon-based, carbon-based similar to humans, or artificial-robotic (010).
Their primary role in the Earth theatre is genetic gardening — adapting DNA for walk-in processes and starseed births. This is not a crude procedure. Gardeners modify the genetics of parents decades before conception to ensure that the resulting body will be compatible with the incoming stellar soul. They work alone, which is one of the ways to distinguish them from the negative robotic Grays who operate under supervision (010).
The Roswell crash recovery of 1947 involved Gardener Grays from Zeta Reticuli — positive beings, not hostile ones. Rashell of Temmer confirmed this in transcript 032, noting that approximately forty ET ships were shot down by directed microwave radar interference between the 1940s and 1970s, mostly by the Americans and allies. The Taygetan ships survived due to multiple backup propulsion systems, but the Gardener ships did not. The beings recovered from these crashes — and the narrative built around them — became the foundation for humanity's distorted understanding of "the Greys" as a single threatening species.
Gardener Grays are sometimes encountered during what humans call abduction experiences. However, the Taygetan perspective distinguishes between genuine Gardener operations (which involve soul-level agreements made before incarnation and serve the starseed programme) and abductions conducted by negative factions using robotic Gray bodies.
2. Maitré (Tall Greys)
The Maitré are the negative faction and represent the greatest direct physical threat to humans among the Grey-type beings. They are described as tall — significantly larger than the small Gardener types — and were created through Reptilian genetic modification of originally plant-based Grey species. They are a secondary race, reproducing only artificially, with zero capacity for empathy (162).
Their agenda is described as total control, enslavement, infiltration, and exploitation — and unlike Reptilians, who prefer covert mind control with slaves thinking they are free, the Maitré favour direct overwhelming power. They are described as being into open slavery without the pretence of freedom (162).
Rashell provides their geopolitical position in transcript 033: the Maitré dominate approximately one-third of Mars (in underground bases), maintain underground Earth bases, and cooperate with Reptilians — though fights between the two factions with fatal results are common. The Maitré are described as "even more ethically backward" than the Reptilians. Their biology involves extracting lymphatic and liquefied material from victims, and both Maitré and Reptilians feed on fear energy or Loosh.
The US government made a formal agreement with the Maitré in the late 1950s, after rejecting the Taygetan offer of free energy in exchange for nuclear disarmament. The Maitré agreement offered destructive technology in exchange for access to the human and animal population, with promised limited abductions and government notification — promises the Maitré never honoured. The technology provided was deliberately incomplete, with key components withheld, and demands for underground bases followed (033).
The PCR swab analysis described in transcript 162 identified Maitré technology fingerprints in the nanotechnology found in the samples — matching Maitré data banks. The nano-devices were described as being at a level that exceeds human capability but remains rudimentary by broader stellar standards — approximately as advanced as Zeta Grey (Gardener) technology, but oriented toward control and enslavement rather than genetic stewardship.
Cattle mutilations are attributed partly to the Maitré alongside Kingu Reptiles, Orange Grays, Malakak, Tall Whites, and also black government projects. The purposes include protein extraction, glandular potions, food for regressive beings, genetic material for hybridisation and cloning, and computer-to-living-tissue technology. The same profile of mutilation is applied to humans and wild animals and plants (140).
3. Robotic / Programmable Grays
A distinct category from either Gardeners or Maitré, the robotic Grays are artificial constructs — not biological organisms with souls but manufactured bodies animated by artificial intelligence or remote control. They are supervised by mantis beings, reptiles, or MILAB (Military Intelligence/Abduction) operations, never operating independently. This supervised operation is the key identifier distinguishing them from Gardener Grays, who always work alone (010).
These robotic Grays are used for abduction operations, base security, laboratory work, and as expendable operatives in environments too dangerous or restrictive for biological beings. They form part of the broader artificial being infrastructure that includes clones, the Red Queen AI network, and the various levels of non-human autonomous technology operating beneath the surface.
The robotic Grays are the ones most commonly described in human abduction accounts involving clinical, emotionless procedures conducted in sterile environments. The Taygetan distinction is important: a Gardener Gray performing genetic adaptation work would have made pre-birth agreements with the soul involved, while a robotic Gray conducting an abduction is a tool being wielded by whichever faction — human or non-human — controls it.
4. Etorthans
The Etorthans are a Grey-type species that occupies a unique and somewhat uncomfortable position in the material: they are Federation members and, in fact, hold seniority within the Federation administrative structure. They are described as part of the non-Lyrian Federation races that are cold and logical, do not understand human or Taygetan emotions, and study emotional reactions as if observing a foreign phenomenon. They view the Taygetans as "emotional idealistic women" (086).

In summary: they are described as advanced, powerful, and in administrative control of significant Federation operations — but their coldness and lack of emotional comprehension creates a fundamental disconnect with the Lyrian races they oversee.
Whether Etorthans should be classified as "Grays" in any meaningful sense is debatable. They share the general physical morphology (large head, large eyes, reduced body) but their biology, consciousness level, and role in interstellar affairs is entirely different from any of the other three categories.
The Problem with the Label "Grey"
The material repeatedly emphasises that lumping these beings together under a single label creates dangerous confusion. A person encountering a Gardener Gray during a prearranged starseed genetic procedure and a person encountering a Maitré during a predatory abduction are having experiences as different as meeting a doctor versus meeting a serial killer — yet both would report encountering "a Grey alien."
This confusion serves the control agenda. By collapsing all Grey-type beings into a single threatening category, the Cabal narrative erases the distinction between humanity's allies and its exploiters. The Roswell Gardeners become indistinguishable from the Maitré abductors, and the existence of positive Grey races working to support the starseed programme disappears from public awareness entirely.
The Taygetan recommendation is to abandon the term "Grey" altogether and instead identify specific species by their actual characteristics, allegiances, and behaviour — the same way one would never confuse a wolf with a golden retriever despite both being canids.
Other Grey-Adjacent Species
Several other species mentioned in the material share visual characteristics with "Greys" but are distinct:
